Dr Suzette Woodward

Dr Suzette Woodward is the National Director of Patient Safety at the National Patient Safety Agency (NPSA). She has been at the NPSA since 2003 and is also the nursing lead for Patient Safety as well as a member of the Board. Her current role is to lead the national strategy for patient safety.
Suzette recently led the second year of the campaign in England, Patient Safety First and is an expert in implementation science having completed a Doctorate in Patient Safety with a focus on the factors which improve implementation of interventions. Suzette was awarded the Ken Goulding Prize for Professional Excellence 2008/2009 in recognition of the best Doctorate project for that year.
Suzette has worked in the NHS for over 30 years, specialising in paediatric intensive care prior to moving into roles related to quality, clinical risk and patient safety. She has an MSc in Clinical Risk, and is a recognised expert in all aspects of patient safety, with a particular interest in patient safety culture, design for patient safety and more recently large scale change methods and campaigning. She regularly provides advice to other countries on setting up national strategies for patient safety and speaks both internationally and nationally.
