Janice Stevens CBE

Janice Stevens CBE
National Director, HCAI & Cleanliness Division
Department of Health

Janice was seconded to the Department of Health in 2005 to work for the Chief Nursing Officer and design and lead the Healthcare Associated Infections (HCAI) programme. The Programme, which included establishing a national improvement team, has supported Trusts to make real reductions in MRSA and CDI thus improving clinical standards outcomes and patient experience.

She describes this role as the most exciting, frightening but rewarding of her career, but one she couldn’t resist. It sits at the heart of delivering high quality care, something that has remained her priority and passion. In March 2009, Janice added "Delivering Same-Sex Accommodation", (DSSA), to her role and is adapting the learning and methodology used to achieve HCAI improvement to tackle this key issue which she believes is an essential component to providing  privacy and dignity for patients.

Janice’s 30+ year career spans A/E nursing, General and Change management roles. In 1999, Janice became Executive Director of Nursing at Good Hope in Sutton Coldfield, Birmingham. During her four years as Executive Director of Nursing, included in her portfolio, was the lead for service re-design and clinical governance. This prepared her well for her next role in the Modernisation Agency in 2002, where she led the Elective Care Team. This included supporting development and improvements in Treatment Centres, Day Surgery and Theatres.

Janice was delighted to have received her CBE in the 2010 New Year Honours for her contribution to nursing and healthcare.
